So get this—in Haiti, turning someone into a zombie is literally treated as murder under criminal law. We’re not kidding. This law is still on the books today, and you could get life in prison for it.

This isn’t some Halloween joke either. It’s rooted in traditional Haitian Vodou beliefs, where people actually think you can use certain toxins and drugs to put someone in a death-like state before bringing them back as a zombie.

Legal “zombification” means using poison to make someone appear dead, then drugging them into a zombie-like state to use as a slave. People actually get arrested for this! Haiti is literally the only place on Earth where zombification is a felony.

Here’s a wild one – this tiny Italian town called Falciano del Massico actually banned dying within city limits back in 2012. Seriously. Death became an “illegal act” in this place.

Why? Their cemetery was completely full and they couldn’t get permits to build a new one. The mayor basically told residents, “Either die somewhere else or just don’t die at all.” Talk about solving problems!

Obviously, you can’t arrest a dead person, but this was their way of making a point about needing a new cemetery. It was more of a satirical protest than an actual law, but it technically made the books.
